The 2 hour “Family Adventure” was the perfect mix of touring the islands of the bay, learning more about them and their history as well as actively fishing in the bay. My kids loved being able to catch fish and had a fun time releasing them at the end as well. We also had the opportunity to help haul in lobster traps during the tour and learned much about lobstering! Our outing with Casco Bay Adventures was definitely a highlight of our trip!

Took a nice trip out to the lighthouse and the dropped poles into the water to catch Mackerel! After we had some bait in the boat we headed over to House island to try and catch Striper, we got a couple bumps but nothing on the line, but had a good time trying with a nice cool breeze.

We stowed the fishing gear and suited up to handle the lobster traps, checked a couple and came away with a keeper lobster. Great teaching moment on how Maine manages the lobster population.

We headed back in to the dock to band the lobster claws and then called it a good day with Capt. John

I found their website after a quick Google search when I was looking for a last minute activity for four middle school aged boys on... read more a perfect Maine summer day. I sent a google form on the website and asked what availability they had THAT day and within twenty minutes I received a call from Captain John. He explained what time he had and an hour later we were all on his boat departing from Spring Point Marina. He was a warm, friendly, knowledgable, low-key, easy-going guy who made the experience both fun and relaxed. John had nuggets of trivia and information to engage the boys. He showed each boy how to operate a fishing rod and we spent timing fishing. I have so many pictures of smiling and laughing boys with beautiful Portland Headlight and all of Casco Bay in the background. Captain John was engaged the entire time, helping and giving advice and pointers. We fished in a couple spots and then went to lobster. He taught the kids about how to identify the gender, how to measure and determine if the lobster was a "keepah." I would highly recommend reaching out to Captain John and his team at Casco Bay Adventures for a run boat adventure in Casco Bay and we surely will be doing that again with our next family visitors!
